The Lot-et Garonne region is rich in history and there is no shortage of places to visit and admire. The local town of Villeneuve-Sur-Lot was founded in 1264 and many of its historic buildings have been preserved. The town is the main centre of the area and has many excellent restaurants and bars. A short drive away is the historic village of Pujols, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful in France. A little further away is the impressive Château de Bonaguil.
Agriculture plays an intrinsic role in local life and the local prunes are justly famous. The area also produces excellent truffles, foie gras and wine, all of which can be bought at the many markets in the area.
For the more active there is an excellent 18-hole golf course in Villeneuve-sur-Lot and the River Lot is well known for its outstanding carp and black bass fishing. There are also many exhibitions and festivals in the area, especially during the summer.
